White Kitchen

I was doing a bit of research and came across this  photo of this beautiful white kitchen.  Immediately I’m drawn to it because it is elegant yet still has a very casual feel.  I like the warmth that the wood counter top on the island and hardwood floors add as well as the contrast of the black stove top and oven against the white of the cabinetry.

I’m in the process of gathering ideas of how I can economically redo my own kitchen but still achieve a more luxurious look .  Now I know this kitchen doesn’t exactly look as if it was done on a dime however, my kitchen already has the components needed to make this transformation pretty easily.

Currently my cabinets are oak with a natural stain  (pretty boring) my idea is to bring a carpenter in to do all the cabinet fixes – making things more functional i.e.  fix hinges, drawer slides, replace door and drawer fronts, add new hardware and install a few convenient functions.  We could then embellish the existing cabinets with molding to give them a more stately appearance.   The next step would be to have a professional cabinet refinishing service come in and finish the cabinets with designer paint and finish for durability.

The good thing about this idea is, I’ll be saving money by keeping my existing granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances.  My other expense will be to replace the floor.  I currently have a light stain wood finished floor but to keep more in line with this kitchen idea, I’ll opt for the darker hardwood flooring to give the white/cream color of the cabinetry contrast.  After all is said and done, this kitchen redo will be less expensive than doing a complete renovation.   With just these few changes; my kitchen could look similar to this beautiful white kitchen.
